  • 1 cup milk, room temperature
  • ½ cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Butter and flour three 6-inch cake pans and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix milk, sour cream, and vanilla; set aside.
  4. Cream butter and sugar in a mixer on medium speed until smooth (about 3 minutes).
  5. Gradually add egg whites while mixing on low speed until combined.
  6. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk mixture to the batter, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Divide batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 15-20 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
