Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 10 oz semi-sweet chocolate, divided
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 6 oz chopped chocolate and butter. Microwave in intervals until melted and smooth; let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Add the melted chocolate mixture and stir until smooth.
  4. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Chill the dough covered for at least a few hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Divide chilled dough into 12 portions; flatten each slightly, place a chocolate chunk inside, and seal completely.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft with a crackly top.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
